Society Members return bringing with them stories of theri summer travels, family history finds, genealogical mysteries solved, and maybe a story or two of a skileton found in a newly discovered closet.

"Touching the Past:  My GermanFather and I Visit a Camp"

A Young German soldier is stationed in the vicinity of a Jewish slave labor camp during WWII.  As part of the Maryland Humanities Council Speakers Bureau Program, Dr. Bjorn Krondorfer, in this personal/autobiographical conversation and discussion, describes the journey he took with his seventy year old father to the Czech Republic and Poland; a journey which included the discovery of a forgotten camp in a polish forest.  The story raises the larger issues of how we must deal with memories of traumatic events in history.

"The David L. Gale Bible Project:  Part II"

Last year Society member Bill Mitchell presented the research work done by several society members during their successful search for living descendents of David L. Gale, a resident of Norwich, Connecticut, and the original owner of an old Bible once owned by Bill's father-in-law. Focusing on the work of fellow member Judy Goddard, the story continues with the life of the Bible and people with whom it has resided for the past 160 years.

"Evidence, Analysis and the Genealogical Proof Standard: An Update"

Eleven years have passed since the Genealogical Proof Standard was introduced at the 1999 NGS Conference in Richmond, Virginia. Certified Genealogist Chuck Mason discusses how evaluating and analyzing evidence has changed since then and how the GPS applies to research done today.
